How will my Cheese be posted out to me?

Your cheese order will be sent out in a secure double-walled cardboard box. The cheese will be packed snugly so as to protect it from excess movement during transit. Will also put an ice pack into the box and send it by 24 hour delivery. This ensures freshness.

I have ordered a cheese tasting experience when will my order arrive?

We send out all cheese tasting events on the Thursday before the event to arrive Frida the day before the event.

My order hasn’t arrived what shall i do?

Please contact us immediately and we will speak with our delivery partners and find a resolution for you asap.

What should I do with my cheese when it arrives?

When your cheese arrives, check that the wrapping is still as snug as possible on order to prevent mould from growing. If the wrapping is compromised, clingfilm or wax paper are the best alternatives. Refrigerate the cheese, or for harder cheeses, store them in a cool/dry place between 8-12 degrees.

When is the earliest I can get my order delivered?

All of our orders are sent out using next day delivery service. We allow 3 – 5 working days from time of placing order to your items arriving

Do you have any Non-Alc options?

Our non-alc options at the moment are simply a great cheese box! We can send out cheese boxes with crackers and chutneys. If you want this event hosted we can do that for £50 with a minimum of 24 households. If you want to run it yourself then it’s £40 per box.

Do you have vegan or veggie options?

We can do veggie options! Just let us know when enquiring with our events team about your requirements. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate vegan options just yet… But, don’t worry! We’re working on it!

How do I pay?

We will take payment from 1 person so it’s up to you guys to organise who you want to be in charge of payment. We require a final payment 2 to 3 weeks prior to your event. For hosted events we will require a deposit payment of 10% that we will invoice once the booking is all confirmed.

How will me and my guests get the tasting packages?

We will post the tasting boxes to you and your guests 3 days prior to the event.

I want to run my own event, can I do that?

YES! We have a self-ran events package where we will send you a “how to” guide so you know exactly how to run your own events. It will include;

  • How to taste the wines, cheeses and how to pair
  • An events checklist
  • A tasting menu
  • Tasting notes to send to your guests

Is there a minimum or maximum number of guests?

For hosted events there is a minimum requirement of 24 households, however if you would like a host and have less guests then we have a minimum spend of the equivalent of 24 – but don’t panic! We will include more products so you get your money’s worth.

What are the portion sizes?

You will get 80g worth of cheese and either full bottles of wine or if you choose the decanted option you will receive a quarter bottle of each wine.

Product Information

Are your wines suitable for vegetarians?

Many of our wines are vegetarian but due to the varying production methods we cannot guarantee which ones will be suitable. Please contact us for further information.

How do I create the perfect cheese board?

Your guests will probably want to sample between 3-5 cheeses, so we recommend a serving size of between 50-75 grams per person, for each cheese.

Always serve the cheeses on a board, whole, so that guests can self-serve, and include a range from soft to blue, hard to crumbly in order to provide a variety of textures, flavours and styles.

We always recommend serving our cheeses alongside fresh bread or crackers, with a seasonal chutney or pickle and a bottle of your favourite wine.

How do I store wine correctly?

When storing wine you have purchased we recommend the following:

  • White & Rose Wine is best served chilled so refrigerate this once your items have arrived.
  • Red wine & port is best served at room temperature.

How long does my cheese last once it’s arrived?

It’s hard to generalise the fridge life of all cheeses as they can vary hugely.

As a rough guide harder and more mature cheeses will last longer, whereas softer and smellier cheeses have a shorter life.

Once a cheese is cut, the rind that acts as its natural protective barrier to the elements has been compromised, and the cheese will start to deteriorate. This means that when you receive your cheeses, they are best eaten within 2 weeks of purchase, but we’ve found they rarely last that long anyway!

What is the rind?

When the cheese matures, moulds, yeasts and bacteria are encouraged to grow in and on the surface of the cheese. A certain balance of these 3 things help the cheese achieve a complex flavour and ideal texture.

They may appear most prominently on the rind, so it is important to eat at least a little of this in order to compare the flavours, unless the rind is specified as inedible.

What makes a cheese Vegetarian?

To make cheese, a dairy needs to use an ingredient called Rennet that acts as a thickening agent for milk. This is traditionally made using ingredients sourced from pigs.

Although there are a variety of vegetarian cheeses that use an alternative vegetarian Rennet, that uses a Funghi-based ingredient.

What should I do if mould grows on the cheese?

Don’t panic! In all cases you should wrap the cut face of the cheese as closely as possible, to stop mould developing.

But, if mould does start to develop, however, remember that cheese and mould are ‘best friends’ so you can simply trim or scrape it off, and carry on eating!

Speakcheesey

Can I bring my dog to the Speakcheesey?

We love doggos, but the Speakcheesey is too small for puppers unfortunately. We do allow animals in the garden and also the window table in the front of the shop.

Can I hold my own event at the Speakcheesey?

No prob, we can seat 16-20 people in the Speakcheesey and around 40-50 people in the Secret Garden (April – September).

Do you accept hen/stag dos?

We do, but you would need to book out the whole space as cheese and wine = good times, and things often get too noisy for other diners. This also applies to large same-sex groups… It can get a bit rowdy, so it’s best to have the space to yourselves.

Do you cater for allergies?

We do! We have gluten-free and vegan options available. Please inform a member of staff on arrival and let them know of any dietary issues and we can let you know what is available to eat.

Do you have non- alcoholic options?

Yes, we do!

I would like to run my event at the Speakcheesey but you close earlier than I would like to finish…

We assess bookings individually and can open later if necessary.

What/where is the Speackcheesey?

Located to the rear of our shop. Informal cheese and wine bar. If you can put cheese on it, we will try it!

Virtual Cheese Tasting Events

Do you have non-alcoholic options?

All our wine and cheese tastings include alcohol, however, if you don’t drink them simply miss the drink!

Do you have veggie or vegan options?

For the virtual tastings we have a set menu and so cannot guarantee that all of the cheeses are vegetarian – and, of course, non of the cheeses are vegan due to them all using dairy products. There may be some veggie options, which you will know about through the tasting notes.

How will me and my guests receive the tasting boxes?

We will post the tasting boxes to you and your guests 3 days prior to the event.

Wedding Cakes

How do I cut the cheese in my cheese wedding cake?

Knife, samurai sword, axe. Go wild. Or alternatively, ask your caterer to portion up the cake once you have taken pictures.

How do I pick the cheeses for my cheese tower wedding cake?

With a cheese tasting! Before you decide whether or not to even choose a cheese tower for your wedding cake, you can book a tasting to choose what cheeses you want in your tower. You get to sit down with one of our cheese experts and try 20 different kinds of cheese to make sure your cake is built out of cheeses you love! A tasting costs £25 per couple.

How long will my cheese tower wedding cake last?

Soft cheeses will generally last 2-3 weeks, hard and blue cheeses around a month but possibly longer. You can also freeze any cheeses that are consistent and without cracks.

How many people will my cheese wedding cake feed?

We recommend about 50-80grams of cheese per person, so if you have spent £200 to £300 you may feed around 100 people. If you spend £100 to £150 then you may feed around 50 people.

How much does a wedding cake made of cheese cost?

Well, it’s kind of up to you and your budget… We’ve done cakes for £27 and cakes for £527 – it’s all about what you want, and how much you want to spend. We charge for the cheese based on weight, and so the more cheese you get, the pricer it gets.

How will my cheese tower wedding cake get to my venue?

We will get all your cheeses ready a week in advance, meaning you can pick up the cheese wheels and take them to the venue in plenty of time – the main thing is to make sure you can keep your cheeses refrigerated. Due to some of the cheese wheels being quite big, it’s important to make sure either you or your venue have room to keep them. We can deliver cheeses, but we only deliver locally if your venue is happy and able to store the cake. We will also charge for delivery and this will be worked out for each individual cake.

Who dresses the wedding cake?

You do! We don’t have anything to do with the dressing of the cheese towers – we just provide the cheese! However, we are very happy to give you some advice on ways you can dress it and what works or what would look good with the style of your wedding.
