A good Christmas cheese board is the part of the day everyone keeps coming back to. Here is how we build ours at the shop on Gillygate: how many cheeses, how much to buy, and what to serve alongside. And if you would rather we did it for you, the dates you need for this year are just below.
Christmas 2026: The Dates
- Order by Monday 7 December to be sure of the day you want.
- Delivery anywhere in the UK, right up to Christmas Eve. Choose your day at checkout.
- Collection from 16 Gillygate, York, every day from Tuesday 8 December.

How Many Cheeses?
Four or five is plenty. Any more and the flavours start to blur together. Pick one from each of the groups below and there will be something for everyone at the table.
How Much To Buy
If the cheese board comes after a full Christmas dinner, allow around 50g of cheese per person. If it is the main event, on Christmas Eve or Boxing Day, go for 100g to 125g each. Leftovers never go to waste.
Something Soft
Our pick this year is Vacherin de Savoie Chabert: soft, rich and at its best in the winter months. Take soft cheeses out of the fridge an hour before you serve them so they are at their best. Browse our soft cheeses.
Something Hard
A good hard cheese is the backbone of the board. Smoked Northumberland brings a gentle smokiness, and Wensleydale and Cranberry gives it a festive, Yorkshire feel. Browse our hard cheeses or our Yorkshire cheeses.
Something Blue
It would not be Christmas without a Stilton. Ours is Colston Bassett, creamy and mellow rather than sharp, and lovely with a glass of port. Browse our blue cheeses.
Something A Little Different
A goat’s cheese, or a cheese nobody at the table has tried before. It gets people talking. Browse our goat’s cheeses or all our Christmas cheeses.
Chutney And Crackers
Keep it simple: one good chutney and two kinds of crackers. Tracklements Christmas Spiced Chutney goes in all our Christmas selections and works with everything on the board. See all our chutneys and crackers.
Wine And Port
Port with the Stilton is the classic for a reason. A medium-bodied red or a sweet white works well with the rest of the board. See our Christmas wine and port, or ask us and we will pair something for you.
Or Let Us Build It For You
If you would rather not think about it, our Christmas cheese boards are cut fresh in York for the day you choose. Each has Vacherin de Savoie Chabert, Wensleydale and Cranberry, Smoked Northumberland and Colston Bassett Stilton, with the Christmas chutney and two kinds of crackers.
- The Christmas Cheese Selection, £49.50: the four cheeses, chutney and crackers.
- The Christmas Cheese and Wine Selection, £79.50: the same, with a bottle of red and a bottle of port.
- The Ultimate Christmas Selection, £105: adds cured meats, Bungay butter, prosecco and a festive treat.
- The Perfect Christmas Cheese Gift Hamper, £105: five cheeses with port, prosecco, Sloemotion Sloe Ruby, chocolates and cured meats.
