Friday 20th November 2026 – The Infamous Port & Cheese Tasting at the Speakcheesey
Our winter favourite is back: a line-up of ports, each paired with a hand-picked cheese, on a candlelit evening at the Speakcheesey on Gillygate. Friday 20th November, from 6.30pm. Over 18s. Port and cheese is a match made in winter, and this is the evening we look forward to most. We'll taste our way from lighter, fresher styles to rich, deep ones. Each pairing comes with the story behind it: where the port comes from, why this cheese works with it and what to put on your own cheeseboard this Christmas. Friday 30th October 2026 – Cocktail Night at the Speakcheesey
A night out for two: four cocktails each and our Afternoon Cheese to share, at the Speakcheesey on Gillygate. Friday 30th October, 6.30pm till 9pm. One ticket covers two people. Over 18s. Our Speakcheesey is usually all cheeseboards and wine by the glass. For one night we're turning the lights down and turning it into a cocktail bar. Bring a friend, a date, your other half or your other other half (we don't judge), and settle in for the evening. What's included (per ticket, for two people) 8 cocktails: 4 each One Afternoon Cheese to share, our signature sharing dish: 5 cheeses, cured meats, olives, cornichons, bread and Bungay butter, crackers and chutney
Saturday 14th November 2026 – The Infamous Port & Cheese Tasting: Winter Virtual Tasting
That’s right, we’re bringing back the infamous Port and Cheese tasting and this time, its coming to you just in time for Christmas port planning. 5 perfectly selected ports, married to 5 spectacular kinds of cheese. While this may not be for the faint-hearted, it is for everyone! So, whether you’re new to port, a seasoned port veteran, or just fancy trying something new – this is one for the diary. In the (2-person) box: 5 selections of Delicious Ports (roughly 150ml each) 5 portions of Cheese (roughly 80g each) A pairings menu. Tasting instructions. Port isn't just for Christmas. That's right, the infamous Port and Cheese tasting is back, and this time it's here for spring. Five perfectly selected ports, from bright and fruity to old and tawny, married to five spectacular cheeses. It may not be for the faint-hearted, but it is for everyone. Whether you're new to port, a seasoned port veteran, or just fancy trying something new, this is one for the diary. Saturday 23rd January 2027 – The Royal Crumble 2027: The Rematch
The rematch is on. Last January The Big Cheese and The Goudafather went head to head for the title of Ultimate Pairing Champion. The Goudafather took the crown, and The Big Cheese has spent twelve months sulking and sharpening his cheese knife. Six artisan cheeses, six wines, two very competitive cheesemongers. Each contender presents their pairings, and this year you decide the winner from your phone. Saturday 13th February 2027 – Bubbles and Brie – Valentines Night In for Two Virtual Tasting
Our Valentine's classic is back. It's boozy, it's boujee and it's bold. Two full bottles of fizz and six gloriously soft cheeses, tasted together the night before Valentine's Day, so the day itself is free for breakfast in bed. Whether you're celebrating with your partner, your best friends or just yourself, do it with cheese. It makes a lovely gift, a proper date night in, or simply a very good Saturday. Saturday 13th March 2027 – A Celebration of Irish Cheese: St Patrick’s Day Virtual Tasting
A toast to Irish cheese. Our St Patrick's Day tasting is a celebration of Irish cheese: five farmhouse cheeses, from the washed rinds of West Cork to the creamy blues of Tipperary, each paired with a wine to match. And somewhere at the end of the rainbow, we're searching for the pot of Gouda. (Spoiler: Ireland makes its own.) Expect good wine, great cheese and plenty of craic. Rule-breakers meet rule-makers. This tasting pairs bold, sunny wines from the New World with the classic cheeses of the Old, the ones Europe has been perfecting for centuries. Think a zippy New Zealand white next to a French goat's cheese, or a big Aussie red against a proper Alpine hard cheese. Some pairings are old friends meeting for the first time. Some are a very happy accident. Either way, it's a trip around the world without leaving the sofa.
