Friday 3rd – Saturday 4th July 2026 – Merchant Adventurers’ Charity Beer Festival

Friday 3rd – Saturday 4th July 2026 – Merchant Adventurers’ Charity Beer Festival

Friday 3rd & Saturday 4th July – Merchant Adventurers’ Hall Our festival collaborations are always a highlight of the summer, and this year we’re thrilled to be part of the Merchant Adventurers’ Charity Beer Festival — a weekend dedicated to great beer, great people, and (of course) great cheese. Taking place across four sessions over the Friday and Saturday, the festival brings together an outstanding line-up of breweries alongside a stunning historic setting. Throughout each session, we’ll be on hand serving up plenty of cheesy favourites, perfect for pairing with your pint as you explore everything the festival has to offer. For those looking to take things a step further, we’ll also be hosting two exclusive Beer & Cheese tastings per session. These guided tastings are designed to showcase just how well beer and cheese can work together — expect carefully matched pairings that highlight flavour, texture and contrast in all the right ways. (Tasting slots are limited and available for an additional charge, payable on arrival.) Whether you’re popping in for a casual drink, settling in for a full session, or joining one of our tastings, this is a brilliant way to experience the best of beer and cheese in a relaxed, festival atmosphere. Sun (hopefully), cold pints, and plenty of cheese — exactly how July should look.

Thursday 18th June 2026 – French Wine (Off The Beaten Track)

Thursday 18th June 2026 – French Wine (Off The Beaten Track)

French wines. Paired cheese. No lectures. Just flavour, stories, and a better way to spend a Thursday. There are safe wine choices. And then there are the ones that make the table go quiet for a moment. This is an evening for the second kind. Join Raise Your Glass at The Speakcheesey, Gillygate, York as we wander beyond the familiar vineyards of Bordeaux and Burgundy, exploring the hidden corners of France through wines you really ought to know about. Not the obvious bottles. Not the supermarket staples. The interesting ones. The kind that bring a bit of sunshine to your day. Across the evening, you’ll taste five French wines chosen for character, contrast and conversation, each paired with exceptional cheese. Because great wine deserves great company, and sometimes that company is cheese. At the helm is Nick Fildes, our Lead Sommelier — two decades in hospitality and a firm believer that wine should feel joyful, not intimidating. No lectures. No maps. No need to remember regions. Just flavour. Stories. And the quiet satisfaction of discovering something new before everyone else does. You’ll leave with: A handful of wines you can actually talk about A clearer sense of what you like And at least one bottle you’ll want to track down again All hosted at The Speakcheesy — warm, welcoming, and made for a sociable evening out. This isn’t a masterclass. It’s a better way to spend a Thursday. Come and see what you’ve been missing.
